Client Spotlight: Fetch the Vet

Living just outside of Buffalo, NY with their three kids, Drs Jim and Jenni Tudini both have successful careers in veterinary medicine – Jim as an emergency veterinarian in a brick and mortar clinic, and Jenni as the new owner of a La Boit-built clinic, creatively titled “Fetch the Vet.” Within 5 minutes of meeting them, you can tell that they have an extraordinary commitment not only to veterinary medicine, but also to family and community. With dedication like that, it’s no surprise that they’ve seen such success.

Dr. Jenni Tudini received her degree in veterinary medicine in Grenada and her certification in the United Kingdom, where she practiced for two years before moving to the United States. During her 12 years as a practicing veterinarian, Dr. Tudini writes that she “had the opportunity to work in various practices as an associate and picked up ideas, business knowledge and ways of practicing that both fit (or don’t!) with the Dr that I am and wish to be.”

For Dr. Tudini, that meant going mobile.

Like many La Boit mobile veterinarians before her, Dr. Tudini saw an opportunity to fill a void in her community. Fetch the Vet is the only full-service mobile veterinary clinic serving Western New York.

“For the last number of years I had felt there was a void in the veterinary care that was being provided in WNY,” she wrote to us in an email. “[I] saw consistently that clients inquired about home visits and felt that there was a whole sector of the community that wasn’t being serviced well.”

Her debut hasn’t gone without notice. Right after launch, Fetch the Vet was featured in Buffalo Business First as a new business. From there it snowballed into a social media frenzy, coverage on three news channels and in print articles.

Local Buffalo station WIVB’s report was titled “East Aurora Vet sees boom in business after hitting the road.”

Business is booming for an East Aurora veterinarian who created a unique vet experience, called Fetch the Vet… [Dr. Tudini] said she can do almost everything inside her large van that other vets can do in normal brick-and-mortar practices. And her van isn’t just a transformed RV. It’s a fully-customized vehicle that was built specifically for this reason.

With all the demand, Dr. Tudini writes that it’s been hectic, but rewarding.

“I am thrilled with how the business is going so far. We are fully booked every day and are booking 4 weeks out which is incredible. I am already being asked by clients and the public if we will be adding more mobile units to the business and expanding!”

Dr. Tudini’s 26ft state-of-the-art mobile veterinary clinic offers digital radiology, ultrasound, in-house lab machines, and a complete surgical suite with up-to-date anesthesia equipment. It can perform the most common procedures that pets require, from routine dental cleanings and vaccinations, to end of life care, all without the stressful trip back and forth to the veterinary office

“We are very happy that every piece of equipment is being used!” she wrote.

So far, Dr. Tudini has served a diverse group of clients from every socio-economic background, including those with fearful pets, multi-pet households, pets with medical issues making travel difficult, housebound clients, elderly clients, and clients that had limited time or a busy family life. She sees four to six patients a day, five days a week. Like most La Boit veterinary clients, Dr. Tudini employs a licensed vet tech to help her with that workload. In addition, Dr. Tudini also brings her husband in for surgical consultations and orthopedic surgeries when needed.

When asked what she’s learned so far in going mobile in her 26ft clinic, first she joked, “Learning to take wider turns on the roads. I now respect truck drivers in a whole new way!”

After a moment of lightheartedness, she wrote that scheduling a mobile clinic has been one of the biggest learning curves.

“Following research prior to opening we decided to work on a biweekly schedule so that we could efficiently service the different areas we cover,” she wrote. “Our goal is no more than a 15 minute drive time between appointments to maximize on clients seen and minimize fuel costs.”

Overall, Dr. Tudini writes that experiencing the gratitude of her clients has been one of her biggest joys so far.

“I am learning that clients are so excited for you to arrive that they are literally waiting with their door open and bring their pet out before you’ve literally turned off the truck!”
