Behavioral Healthcare Partners (BHP) of Central Ohio, Inc. took delivery of their La Boit-built mobile medical clinic in late 2024, which they call the “Mobile Care Now Clinic” (MCNC).

The 26ft clinic features two client interview rooms with additional sound insulation for complete privacy, as well as a reception area, cold weather package, exterior graphics, and awning.

“Our new Mobile Care Now Clinic is here to provide cutting-edge behavioral health urgent care services in your community!,” BHP wrote on Facebook for the clinic’s launch.

BHP serves the rural counties that surround the capital city of Columbus, Ohio, providing mental health and addiction-related services to those in need. Before their mobile unit, they provided services exclusively through two brick-and-mortar locations.

“Anyone 5 years or older can call or walk into one of our 2 Central Ohio locations, with no appointment, for a wide range of mental health and addiction services,” their website states.

Now, with a mobile clinic, they’ve been able to expand services to a variety of locations throughout their community, taking the clinic to businesses, community events, places of worship, schools, and other local healthcare providers.

“The MCNC is available… to bridge the gap between the needs of our communities and access to quality behavioral healthcare,” their website explains.

Mobile mental health services can serve as a lifeline for those who need it, particularly in areas where mental health care can be sparse, such as rural areas. According to a policy brief from the National Rural Health Association, residents in rural areas often face barriers when accessing mental health services, including the availability of an appropriately-trained local workforce as well as technological barriers for telehealth.

“These challenges contribute to a more vulnerable and resource-poor rural population compared to urban peers,” the policy brief states.

Mental and behavioral health has moved to the forefront of public health in the wake of the pandemic. Public health professionals at all levels want to know what they can do to reach more members of their community in a convenient and cost-effective way. Mobile health can be an important part of the answer.
